Ready2Read Level 1: Unit 8
Lesson Plans
Here is the lesson scope for the final unit in Ready2Read Level 1.

Sight Word Practice
Unit 8 introduces the sight words away, where, two, run, and here. By now, the song should easily be stuck in your head.

The final Sight Word Caterpillar that you will add to your wall is just as adorable as the rest!

By the end of this unit, students will have mastered a total of 40 sight words! Wow!

Practice, practice, practice! There is plenty to make sure that your students build fluency to be more confident readers.

Here are the Color by Sight Words pages for Unit 8.

Roll and read the sight words the row.

CVC Word Family Practice
Here are two of my favorite items to add to the Word Family Garden: a bee and a hive! In Unit 8, students learn the -ed and -in word families.

These word family sliders include a few names, as students usually begin to learn rules of capitalization for names around this point in learning.

The Word Family Houses are introduced in lesson 2, but can be practiced at any point in the unit.

Now that students should begin to have a better grasp of segmenting the sounds in words, they should be able to practice spelling the whole word. However, there are still cards that include given letters to act as scaffolding for those who still need them.

Flip and Cover the identical word.

There are many different kinds of spinners out there these days. Below are a couple of my favorites: the suction spinner and the transparent spinner.

Segment and spell the word with these sound cards.

With the CVC Puzzles, students can put the picture together to build the matching word. Then they can read the beginning, middle and ending sounds of the word to sound it out.

Match the word to the picture.

Use colorful sand as a fun way to practice spelling the CVC words or sight words!

Roll and read the word. Then cover a picture to match.

Roll a die, read a word in the row and cross it off.

Cut and paste the letters to build the word.

Find the word family words in this fun word search!

Mixed Review
Everybody loves a pizza party, and this one is sure to be a crowd pleaser! These mixed review activities are sure to keep your students engaged and entertained!

Read and match both word family words.

Roll and cover the picture to match.

Roll and read a word in the row.

Practice all sight words, along with 2 sentences at the bottom in the Read, Stamp and Trace activity.

Students practice identifying the word that matches the picture.

Color the -in and -ed CVC words by the code.

The final sets of books include slightly longer sentences than at the beginning of the level. As their confidence and reading stamina improve, they will be able to read longer and longer passages.
