October is full of all sorts of fun, and the 2nd Grade October Morning Bins are nothing short of entertaining ways to help students warm up for the day! Incorporate these into your morning routine, and watch your students become more engaged and eager to learn.

Is your morning routine a bit chaotic? Do you feel like you are wasting the first 10 minutes or so of the day? Do you panic when you realize that you forgot to print out some type of morning work for your students? You are not alone and we all hate it! Many teachers struggle with implementing productive morning routines, but I have a solution for you!
Simply put, our students come into the classroom with a lot of different needs. Some are not quite awake and need a little time to settle in before they start their day. Some students are super social and want to interact with their friends. Teachers need to take lunch count and attendance. There is a LOT to do in the morning? How do we make morning successful and exciting for kids? I have the answer….2nd Grade Morning Bins!
NOTE: Many teachers are choosing to use these as early finisher tubs or during a different part of the day. Generic labels have been included for this purpose.

Let’s take a look at each of the 2nd Grade October Morning Bins in action!
Morning Bin #1: Vocabulary
Students will read the vocabulary words, sort them into groups, and explain why they sorted them the way they did.


Morning Bin #2: Word Use
Students will read the word and decide if the word is a compound word or not a compound word.

Morning Bin #3: Phonemic Awareness & Phonics
Students will read the word and decide if the word has a short vowel sound or a long vowel sound. Then they will sort it to the correct mat.



Morning Bin #4: Writing Conventions
Students will read the sentence and decide if the sentence ends in a period, question mark or exclamation mark.


Morning Bin #5: Spelling Conventions
Students will say the word and decide if long a sound is spelled with an ay, ai, a_e or igh.


Morning Bin #6: Text
Students will place the date or time cards in order to complete the time line.


Morning Bin #7: Sentences & Paragraphs
Students will read each part of the story and place the parts in order.

Morning Bin #8: Parts of Speech
Students will read a sentence and decide if the underlined adverb tells how, when or where.


Morning Bin #9: Writing
Students will read the poem and choose the words that best finish each line of the poem.

Morning Bin #10: Logic & Critical Thinking
Students will read the riddle and find the word that matches the clues.


Morning Bin #11: Add & Subtract
Students will spin both spinners, add the numbers and cover a number to match.

Morning Bin #12: Fluency
Students will look at the number puzzle and fill in the missing numbers according to base ten rules and a hundreds chart.


Morning Bin #13: Multiplication Foundations
Students will roll 2 or 3 dice, decide if each number is even or odd, find the sum and decide if the sum is even or odd.


Morning Bin #14: Place Value
Students will take turn rolling a die, counting the base ten blocks and covering the numbers until a player gets 5 in a row.

Morning Bin #15: Counting & Skip Counting within 1,000
Students will skip count forwards and backwards by 100 to fill in the missing numbers.

Morning Bin #16: Measurement & Estimation
Students will read the clues and place the kids in order from tallest to shortest using the clues.



Morning Bin #17: Time & Money
Students will read the time on the clock and find the time that matches.

Morning Bin #18: Data & Graphing
Students will spin the spinner 20 times, tally the results, and then graph the results.

Morning Bin #19: Shapes & Fractions
Students will roll a die, say the name of the shape and place the shape on the picture.


Morning Bin #20: Critical Thinking
Students will look at the given shapes, study the shape pictures and decide which picture cannot be made with the given shapes.

Morning Bin #21: Social & Emotional
Students will read the breathing prompt on the card, perform the task and think about how they feel after breathing.
