DIY Puzzles for 10 Cents!

We have tons of puzzles at The Moffatt Girls’ Household because they are so much FUN!  However, not only are they fun, but they are also good for the brain!  The article,  3 Reasons Your Children Should Learn to Do Puzzles, explains that puzzles help with:

1) Hand-Eye Coordination
2) Problem Solving Skills
2) Memory Skills
Audrey does really well with her 100 piece puzzles and Sophia enjoys the big chunky ones.  Both girls just love puzzles, and they especially enjoy it when we (Mommy and Daddy) play with them.  Why not make your own puzzles?  They only cost 10 cents!
Step #1: Draw a picture on a white sheet of paper.  Keep in mind, I am not the best artist…I am sure many of you can do MUCH better, but Audrey liked mine:)

Step #2: Color the picture.  This helps to create ownership of the puzzle.

Step #3: Turn the paper over and draw lines/shapes on the back.  I used a ruler to help with this process. For younger children, you could start with 4-6 pieces and then build up to more pieces.

Step #4: Laminate and cut out all of the pieces.

  1. This is such a cool idea. I think I would have my grandson watercolor his (I can't see him using colors to that extent) and then after drying maybe laminate and then cut. Very neat idea.
