Is your morning routine a bit chaotic? Do you feel like you are wasting the first 10 minutes or so of the day? Do you panic when you realize that you forgot to print out some type of morning work for your students? You are not alone and we all hate it! Many teachers struggle with implementing productive morning routines, but I have a solution for you!
Simply put, our students come into the classroom with a lot of different needs. Some are not quite awake and need a little time to settle in before they start their day. Some students are super social and want to interact with their friends. Teachers need to take lunch count and attendance. There is a LOT to do in the morning? How do we make morning successful and exciting for kids? I have the answer….3rd Grade Morning Bins!
NOTE: Many teachers are choosing to use these as early finisher tubs or during a different part of the day. Generic labels have been included for this purpose.

3rd GRADE JANUARY MORNING BINS:
MORNING BIN #1: PARTS OF SPEECH
Students read the sentence and decide the part of speech of the underlined word.
MORNING BIN #2: CAPITALIZATION, PUNCTUATION AND PROOFREADING
Students rewrite the book title using proper capitalization.
MORNING BIN #3: WORD USE AND MEANING
Students read the idiom and match the correct meaning to the card.
MORNING BIN #4: SENTENCES: TYPES AND AGREEMENTS
Students read the sentence and decide if it is a simple, compound or complex sentence.
MORNING BIN #5: PREFIXES AND SUFFIXES
Students will spin both spinners and write the word with the correct spelling.
MORNING BIN #6: TEXT
Students will read the passage, read a fact and decide if the fact is found in the passage.
MORNING BIN #7: SPELLING PATTERNS
Students will read a bossy w or qu word and decide which spelling pattern is found in the word.
MORNING BIN #8: MULTISYLLABIC WORDS
Students will break up a 2-syllable word into each syllable and decide if the word is a real word or a nonsense word.
MORNING BIN #9: WRITING
Students will spin each spinner, think of a story that includes the story elements, and write a paragraph that might be in the story.
MORNING BIN #10: LOGIC & CRITICAL THINKING
Students will read the phonics riddle and decide which word matches the clue in the riddle.
MORNING BIN #11: MULTIPLICATION
Students will spin the spinner, multiply the numbers and cover the product.
MORNING BIN #12: DIVISION AND RELATIONSHIP WITH MULTIPLICATION
Students will look at the array and write a multiplication and a division equation to match the array.
MORNING BIN #13: ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION UP TO 1,000
Students will take turns spinning both spinners, solving the equation and writing the answer on the board.
MORNING BIN #14: MATH FLUENCY
Students read a multiplication equation and decide if it is true or false to make a path through the maze.
MORNING BIN #15: WORD PROBLEMS AND NUMBER PATTERNS
Students will write the product on the snowman and decide if it is even or odd.
MORNING BIN #16: PLACE VALUE
Students will roll 3 dice, write the number in expanded and word form, and round the number to the nearest 10 and 100.
MORNING BIN #17: FRACTIONS AND SHAPES
Two students each flip a card, write the fractions and compare them. The player with the largest fractions keeps both cards.
MORNING BIN #18: TIME, DATA AND MONEY
Students will use the ruler to measure the items and plot each measurement on the line plot.
MORNING BIN #19: MEASUREMENT
Students will roll two dice, draw a rectangle to match the rows and columns, and write the number of square units in the rectangle.
MORNING BIN #20: CRITICAL THINKING
Students will use the grid numbers to draw the parts of the picture.
