This week we worked on Unit 2 in our Ready2Read Program! If you are not familiar with the Ready2Read program, check out the information page {HERE}.
*Note: As of 11/7/2012, Level 1 has been completely reworked and revised. Here is the NEW and IMPROVED version! This blogpost will be a bit different from the upgraded printables, but contains the same content.
Sight Words: you, can, look, up, is
Word Families: ig, ip
Theme: Word Family Garden
I introduced the lesson with our 5 new sight word color-by-number flashcards…
We sorted our sight words….
Then we sang our sight word song to the tune of B-I-N-G-O…
The printable song sheet is in the Unit 1 download. New words will be available in each new unit.
Audrey colored 5 new sight words for her sight word caterpillar…
WOW! Look at it grow!! You could ask your child to read a specific color word to practice. For example, “Can you read all of the red and blue words?” This helps mix it up a bit.
Later on in the week I actually decided to tape the sight word caterpillar down on our wall since it continues to grow!
Traced our sight words…
We decorated our sight words, which was a HUGE hit again! We raided the pantry for our cake decorations once again…so much fun! What will you find in your pantry?
Colored our word family coloring page…
We PAINTED our Read it, Trace it, Past it pages! Audrey really enjoyed this part and wanted to several in one day.
Colored our color-by-sight word coloring page…
We worked with our word picture cards…
We even played memory with the -ip and -ig sets:)
We decoded our sight words. This was a BIG hit again and since they are in sheet protectors, we were able to do them several times:)
Audrey was really excited about her word sort since it involved ice cream!!! (with a cherry on top:)
Audrey practiced her CVC word and we up-leveled it by writing the letters in the boxes.
Note: Make sure to erase soon after so it comes off easily:)
Audrey cut out, read and worked in both word family minibooks…
Practiced with our -ip and -ig family word slides…

Thank you for sharing! This is fantastic! I can't wait to start this unit!
Did you know if you laminate the pages & use Vis-A-Vis markers you can just run them under water? You don't have the odor from the dry erase markers & you can use these sheets over & over! The durability is unbeatable if you want to reuse these terrific materials or save their work forever…

I just started this with my 8yr. old. I think this is going to be great practice for him to become a more fluent reader.
I know he's on the older end but I know this is going to really help him
Thank you for your wonderful products.
