Guided Reading is a small group instruction, which allows the teacher to provide explicit teaching and support for reading increasingly challenging texts. As the teacher targets and implements reading strategies that help guide and support the reader, students learn to think like proficient readers.

During Guided Reading groups, teachers can introduce the text, take a picture walk through the text, and encourage students to discuss the meaning of the text. Guided Reading Level B includes EVERYTHING you need to be successful at your guided reading tables. Optional activities, like writing a summary, allow students to extend their understanding of a text through writing.

Each Guided Reading Book includes lesson plans. The 4-day lesson plans for each book follows the following format:

Each book includes 3 Levels of Basic Skills and 3 Levels of Bonus Skills. The 3 different levels of skills allow you to differentiate to meet the needs of ALL your learners.
What basic skills are taught in Level B?
The Basic Skills Included in Guided Reading Level B:
- Sight Word Practice
- Making Predictions
- Story Word Matching
- Writing a Summary
- Beginning Sounds
- Making Connections
- Making Sentences
- Story Word Writing
Each Basic Skill comes in three levels so you can meet the needs of your students throughout the course of using the Guided Reading Level B Curriculum. For example, the Sight Word Practice comes in 3 Levels (a-easiest, b-intermediate, c-challenging). Choose the version that best suits each student. These can be used as part of the lesson, a center rotation, homework, or seat work.
As a teacher, you may have students who are in Kindergarten, 1st grade, or even 2nd grade, who need Level B books. However, the different levels for each activity will allow you to meet all your students’ needs academically. Likewise, you may have students at the Kindergarten level who start Books 1, 2, and 3 with Level A activities. When you get to books 4, 5, and 6, you may want to up the level of practice by providing students with intermediate activities. This option allows you to differentiate even within a specific guided reading level!

Printed back to back, Level B fits perfectly into a 1.5 inch binder. I used 10 Avery tabs to separate each set of lesson plans for each book.
The only thing you need to print and prep are the vocabulary cards, sight word cards, and Guided Reading books! Everything else gets stored in the binder above.
The Guided Reading Books allow you to print in several options. You can print double-sided, single sided, black and white, and in Spanish! The lesson plans are also editable so you can teach the curriculum according to your needs and style!
