By 3rd Grade, students are required to fluently add and subtract within 1,000 with and without regrouping. By applying a variety of grade-level addition and subtraction strategies, students develop greater accuracy and confidence. Through a variety of strategies, students learn that numbers can be adjusted to compute more efficiently. In Unit 2 of Math Made Fun for 3rd Grade, students apply place value strategies from Unit 1 and other strategies previously taught with larger numbers. Students can learn to add and subtract fluently with the 21 fun, hands-on math centers and 80 no prep practice pages.
In this math unit on Addition and Subtraction, the following standard is covered:
Students will fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.

The Daily Lesson Plans offer differentiation for on-level, below-level and above-level students.
The lesson plans are broken down into 5 easy-to-follow parts:

2. Review- A quick warm-up that has students practice previous skills that will be used in the current lesson.

CENTER NUMBER 1: Spin, Solve and Cover (Addition)
Spin both spinners. Add the numbers. Cover the number on the board that matches the sum.
CENTER NUMBER 2: Spin, Solve and Cover (Subtraction)
Spin both spinners. Subtract the number on the second spinner from the number on the first spinner. Cover the number on the board that matches the difference.
CENTER NUMBER 3: Break Apart Strategy Addition (3 Digits)
Match the difference with the correct problem. Record your answers on the recording sheet.
CENTER NUMBER 4: Break Apart Fill-In Addition (3 Digits)
Break apart the numbers and fill in the boxes. Add across, then down to find the sum.
CENTER NUMBER 5: Break Apart Strategy Addition
Use the break apart strategy to solve the addition problems. Show your work on the recording sheet. If playing with 2 players continue playing until someone gets 4 in a row!
CENTER NUMBER 6: Expanded Form Addition (3 Digits)
Expand the numbers and add the hundreds, tens and ones. Then add the expanded numbers to get the sum.
CENTER NUMBER 7: Match it Up! Addition (2 and 3 Digits)
Match the sum with the correct problem. Record your answers on the recording sheet.
CENTER NUMBER 8: Addition Up to 1,000
Find the two cards listed on the recording sheet. Write an addition problem using the numbers on the cards and solve.
CENTER NUMBER 9: Roll, Add and Compare Addition (2 and 3 Digits)
Roll a die for each addend box. Place the dice on the mat in the addend boxes. Add the numbers. The person who has the highest sum colors a star.
CENTER NUMBER 10: Match it Up! Subtraction (2 and 3 Digits)
Match the difference with the correct problem. Record your answers on the recording sheet.
CENTER NUMBER 11: Break Apart Strategy Subtraction
Use the break apart strategy to solve the subtraction problems. Show your work on the recording sheet. If playing with 2 players continue playing until someone gets 4 in a row!
CENTER NUMBER 12: Missing Addends
Flip a card. Fill in the missing addend to make the equation true.
CENTER NUMBER 13: Missing Numbers Subtraction (3 Digits)
Use the difference to fill in the missing numbers. Record your answers on the recording sheet.
CENTER NUMBER 14: Subtraction Up to 1,000
Find the two cards listed on the recording sheet. Write a subtraction problem using the numbers on the cards and solve.
CENTER NUMBER 15: Find the Equal Subtraction (3 Digits)
Find the two subtraction problems that have the same difference as the number at the top of the card.
CENTER NUMBER 16: Balancing Equations: True or False?
Read the equation. Decide if it is true or false. Sort to the correct column.
CENTER NUMBER 17: Following the Rules Addition (3 Digits)
Flip a card. Read the rule at the top of the card. Fill in the table with the correct sums.
CENTER NUMBER 18: Following the Rules Subtraction (3 Digits)
Flip a card. Read the rule at the top of the card. Fill in the table with the correct differences.
CENTER NUMBER 19: Word Problems
Read and solve the word problems. Show your work on the recording sheet.
CENTER NUMBER 20: Addition and Subtraction up to 1,000
Two friends take turns solving an addition or subtraction problem. If your answer is correct, cover the problem with your color. The first person with 5 in a row wins!
CENTER NUMBER 21: Flip, Solve and Compare
Two players each flip a card. Solve the problems. Then compare the sums or differences. The player with the highest number colors a star.
These no prep practice pages are convenient, and will help students master the skills to add and subtract within 1,000. For each page, there is a grade level standard attached so you know EXACTLY what you are covering! You can feel confident that ALL the standards for Third Grade are being covered!
