FREEBIE and some butterfly pictures!
We have had so much fun with our butterflies, especially since we found them in our garden…for FREE! There was a bit of a scare there since I thought that they might be gypsy moths, which destroy your garden! However, I am happy to say that we have 5 BEAUTIFUL Morning Cloak butterflies!
It is always such a magical experience to see them change from caterpillars to butterflies! There is always so much talk going on in our home about the process of becoming a butterfly and it never seems to get old.
We released 2 of our butterflies today and it was amazing!
Audrey was so careful to be gentle with the butterfly as she removed it from the net…
For just a brief magical moment, she was able to hold her butterfly on her finger! Such a precious memory!
Before her eyes, he fluttered away. He is the black spot on the top part of the picture. It happened so fast that I almost didn’t’ capture it!
It is the simple things in life that create such fun and precious memories!
Sophia wants to hold her butterflies tomorrow:)
We took our learning to the next level by observing our butterflies and drawing the details. It was a great way to pay attention to details.
After closely examining our butterflies, Audrey colored hers to match.
Carefully cut the butterfly out and fold along the body to give a nice crease. Attach a clothespin with some glue. We even used a glue stick and that worked fine.
I added our beautiful butterflies to a branch from one of our trees. We are all so happy with how they turned out! A simple craft, but such fun and effective learning!

I just loved this post, Annie! I have been a bit hesitant to even think about doing such a unit as I don't cope well with anything creepy, crawly, or even butterfly-like :S But the way your pics have captured such amazing moments may have just changed my mind! If I get to stay with my class next term, I think I might be brave enough to give it a go! Thank you so much for sharing:) Hope you are having a wonderful week so far ~ xx
I can’t get the link to work, and I really love this idea!!! 🙂 Could you email me the butterfly printable? schoolbee123@yahoo.com
