First grade is a very important year where students are building a strong foundation in their journey for mathematical proficiency. One of the most fundamental mathematical areas that students need to master is basic operations. Students need a LOT of opportunities for practice to become proficient in mastering subtraction facts. CENTER NUMBER 1: Roll, Solve and Cover
Roll a die. Solve a subtraction problem in the row of the number you rolled. Record the answer on the recording sheet.
CENTER NUMBER 2: Tic-Tac-Toe Subtraction
Take turns with a friend solving the subtraction problems. Each player uses a different color to write the answers. The first person to get three in a row wins.
CENTER NUMBER 3: Spin and Subtract
Spin the spinner. Subtract that number from the number at the top of the board. Cover a number to match your answer.
CENTER NUMBER 4: True or False Equations
Read the equations and decide if they are true or false. Sort the card to the correct mat.
CENTER NUMBER 5: Roll, Subtract and Cover
Roll a die. Subtract that number from the number at the top of the equation. Cover a number to match your answer.
CENTER NUMBER 6: Puppy Dog Subtraction
Find the missing number that will make the equation true. Record the equation on the recording sheet.
CENTER NUMBER 7: True or False Fries
Read the equations and decide if they are true or false. Sort the card to the correct mat.
CENTER NUMBER 8: Spin and Subtract Up to 10
Spin both spinners. Subtract the number of spinner 2 from the number of spinner 1.
CENTER NUMBER 9: Spin and Subtract Up to 20
Spin both spinners. Subtract the number of spinner 2 from the number of spinner 1.
CENTER NUMBER 10: Missing Numbers
Complete the equation by filling in the missing number.
CENTER NUMBER 11: Roll and Decide: Equal or Not
Roll a die. Look at the two subtraction problems and decide if they are equal or not. Color a happy face if they are equal or a sad face if they are not.
CENTER NUMBER 12: Fact Family POPcorn!
Use the numbers on the popcorn tub to make two addition and two subtraction equations.
CENTER NUMBER 13: Fact Family Frogs
Read the equations on the lily pads. Match the lily pads with the correct fact family frog.
CENTER NUMBER 14: Fact Family Houses
Match the parts of the house with the correct roof to complete the fact family house.
CENTER NUMBER 15: Roll a Fact Family
Two players take turns rolling 2 dice. Make a fact family using the two numbers. If the answer is correct, the player gets to color a happy face.
CENTER NUMBER 16: Equivalent Equations
Match the sunglass equations that are equivalent. Record the equations on the recording sheet.
CENTER NUMBER 17: Balancing Equations
Find an addition problem and a subtraction problem that have the same answer. Place them on the scale and record the equations on the recording sheet.
CENTER NUMBER 18: Spin and Cover- Half the Double
Spin the spinner. Solve the problem and cover the answer.
CENTER NUMBER 19: Make 10 to Subtract
Look at the first number. Decide what number must be subtracted to make 10 and write it into the first bubble. Then complete the number bond. Fill in the equation using the new numbers.
CENTER NUMBER 20: Monster Subtraction
Count the number of candies. Subtract the number in the corner. Find an equation to match.
CENTER NUMBER 21: Pencil Subtraction
Count the number of pencils. Subtract the number in the corner. Find an equation to match.
CENTER NUMBER 22: Button Subtraction
Count the buttons in the jars. Find the missing number to make the equation true.
CENTER NUMBER 23: Number Line Subtraction
Use the number line to help you solve the subtraction problem. Record your answer on the recording sheet.
CENTER NUMBER 24: Number Bonds to 10
Complete the number bond. Write an equation to match, and record it on the recording sheet.
CENTER NUMBER 25: Number Bonds to 20
Complete the number bond. Write an equation to match, and record it on the recording sheet.
CENTER NUMBER 26: Number Lines- Count Backward
Write a subtraction equation on the recording sheet for each number line.

Follow the subtraction rule to complete each table. Record your answers on the recording sheet.

Follow the subtraction rule to complete each table. Record your answers on the recording sheet.

Solve the word problems. Show how you solved them on the recording sheet.

HOW DO I ORGANIZE THE UNITS?
I chose to store the math centers in Sterilite bins, because they don’t take up too much space. It is a tight fit, but I find that they work nicely for me. However, if you choose, you could store the centers in a larger container as well. Within the bin, each math center is stored in a gallon sized ziplock baggie.

Hello, I was just wondering if you knew when the rest of your 1st grade growing bundle will be done. I would like to use it this year. I am not sure if I will be in first grade next year. I don’t want to purchase it and then not be able to use it. It looks great!!

I am working as fast as I can on the 1st Grade packets. I’m going to release Unit 4 very soon, and each unit is taking about 10 to 14 days to make. I hope that’s fast enough for you!
