Mastering multiplication and division is such an important skill for 3rd grade students. In Unit 3 of the 3rd Grade Math Made Fun Curriculum, students will learn and practice a variety of strategies to help them fully understand what multiplication and division are and how we use them in everyday life. Rather than simply memorizing the math facts, students will gain an understanding of arrays, equal groups, repeated addition, the commutative property of multiplication, and the associative property of multiplication. Later, in Unit 4, students will focus on building fluency of multiplying and dividing numbers up to 100.

Each unit includes a scope with the objectives:
The Daily Lesson Plans offer differentiation for on-level, below-level and above-level students.
The lesson plans are broken down into 5 easy-to-follow parts:
1. Objective– What students should be able to do by the end of the lesson.
2. Review- A quick warm-up that has students practice previous skills that will be used in the current lesson.
3. Hook-A fun intro to get students engaged.
4. Mini Lesson– Teach, model, and discuss the new skill in today’s lesson.
5. Practice- Each practice section lists three types of activities that pair well with the specific lesson.
Center(s)- New center(s) to be introduced with the lesson.
Activity Pages- These pages require some basic materials such as scissors, glue or dice.
Practice Pages- These only require a pencil and crayons! They are great for table work, homework or work on the go!
✸Differentiation– Each lesson include scaffold and extension ides to meet the needs of students at all levels!

LET’S LOOK AT THE MATH CENTERS FOR UNIT 3 IN ACTION…
CENTER NUMBER 1: Multiplication (Equal Groups)
Pick a card. Express the groups as a multiplication equation.
CENTER NUMBER 2: Equal Groups (Repeated Addition and Multiplication)
Match the repeated addition problem to the correct multiplication problem. Solve to find the product.
CENTER NUMBER 3: Repeated Addition
Pick a card. Write a multiplication sentence to match the repeated addition problem.
CENTER NUMBER 4: Popcorn Multiplication
Flip a card. Fill the buckets to show the correct number of groups. Count to find the product.
CENTER NUMBER 5: Counting Equal Groups
Flip a card. Count the total number of dots in the set. Count how many groups are in the set. Count how many dots are in each group. Write a division equation to match.
CENTER NUMBER 6: Equal Groups (Division)
Flip a card. Write a division problem that represents the illustration.
CENTER NUMBER 7: Seed Division
Flip a card. Fill the potting soil to show the correct number of groups. Count to find how many seeds are in each group.
CENTER NUMBER 8: Divide to Show
Flip a card. Fill the gumball machines to show the division problem.
CENTER NUMBER 9: Roll and Cover
Roll a die. Cover an array that matches the multiplication problem of your roll.
CENTER NUMBER 10: Multiplication Match Up
Find the arrays that match each multiplication problem.
CENTER NUMBER 11: Multiplication Arrays
Flip a card. Fill the grid to show the array that matches the multiplication problem.
CENTER NUMBER 12: Array (Multiplication)
Flip a card. Write a multiplication equation that represents the array.
CENTER NUMBER 13: Multiplication: True or False?
Read the multiplication problem and look at the array. Decide if the array matches the problem and sort to the correct card.
CENTER NUMBER 14: Commutative Property
Place an array card on the board. Find the matching multiplication problem. Write the commutative property. Model an array to match the new problem.
CENTER NUMBER 15: Relate Multiplication and Division
Flip a card. Write a multiplication equation to match. Then write a division equation to match.
CENTER NUMBER 16: Multiplication and Division Match
Find the multiplication and division problems that match the array on the card.

These no prep practice pages are convenient, and will help students master the skills to add and subtract within 1,000. For each page, there is a grade level standard attached so you know EXACTLY what you are covering! You can feel confident that ALL the standards for Third Grade are being covered!
HOW DO I ORGANIZE THE UNITS?
I chose to store the math centers in Sterilite bins, because they don’t take up too much space. It is a tight fit, but I find that they work nicely for me. However, if you choose, you could store the centers in a larger container as well. Within the bin, each math center is stored in a gallon–sized ziplock baggie.
