Sophia LOVES to “do school” and I love to do it with her. Although she had a slight cold this week, she was still a happy little learner:) I am preparing this little honey for our Ready2Read Program, but she doesn’t even know it:) I think all kids want to learn…especially when it is FUN!!
She worked on her Leapfrog Frig Phonics and had so much fun. We worked a little on the -at family. Since she hears Audrey read all of the time, she is so eager to learn. She is not really ready to sound out words, but we work at it a little…
Here she is pointing to the letters and making their sounds. It was neat to see her sound out each individual letter, but no blending involved yet.
I turned around to grab my camera and she spelled the word fox. I know it was a totally accident, but it made me smile:) And of course I praised her like crazy for doing such a good job:)
We played a little with her Alphabet Bug Mats. I really like these because they have both upper and lowercase letters. When Sophia first started playing with these, I would just give her the 5 letters on the mat. Now she is able to pick the correct letters. However, I did separate the upper and lowercase letters.
I play a game with her to see who finds the letter first and she just LOVES this!! I think it is because she always wins;) Sometimes she holds my hand back so she can’t get it…little stinker:)
Alphabet Memory is another game that helps children match upper and lowercase. She really enjoyed playing with Audrey and I was surprised at how well she did with this memory game.
We also worked on saying the phonics sounds when finding the matching letters. This is a super easy task for kids to pick up, especially after watching Leapfrog’s Letter Factory! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that video!
We made some more Play-Doh this week. It is so easy to make and you can add your own scents to make it smell nice! {HERE} is a basic recipe that I absolutely LOVE!

She is so focused when it comes to cutting her Play-Doh! Cutting, rolling and manipulating Play-Doh is such a good fine motor skill that will later help with handwriting.
I spelled out her name and sang this song to the tune of BINGO…

S-O-P-H-I-A, S-O-P-H-I-A, S-O-P-H-I-A
and Sophia was her name-O!
Needless to say, she LOVED this! She decided to sing with me and touch the letters as she sang. Most kids are hands-on learners and this is such a great way to learn!

Sophia asked to play this “game” a lot this week. She was a little thrown off by the lowercase letter a, because she is used to seeing the other style. However, this is good for different letter font recognition.
She ended the week doing one of her ABC puzzles in jammies before bed:)
I really think she is obsessed with the ABC’s right now!!

Just wanted to tell you that I am loving the Toddler Task posts. Wish she was a toddler last year when my sweet pea's were still toddlers, but enjoy them none the less. Question…what are the proportions of food coloring that you used to get that color. Turquoise is my g'kids new favorite. I think they like the word. This is exactly the color of the crayon by that name in the Lakeshore box. Secondly…what did you do to your magnet board to make it white? Sorry if you posted that already and I missed it, but I am curious. Still considering getting one of those things.
Oh yes…I forgot to post about that color! I was actually surprised that I got that color after mixing 3 drops of BLUE food coloring in the water…Hmm…I thought it would make light blue, but I was pleasantly surprised:)
Actually, the white magnetic board in the picture is our whiteboard…not the oil pan. I considered painting the oil pan, but decided not to.
Thanks for the free printables! We have just talked about rainbow colors and this is a perfect addition to the literacy center.
My daughter has the fridge phonics, but I've never seen the Alphabet bug mats. That looks pretty cool.
