CVC Roll it, Read it, Write it!

We have a little reader in the Moffatt Girls house! Beginning readers need a LOT of practice, especially when it comes to CVC words!   Since rolling dice is always a FAVORITE with kids I wanted to create a simple NO PREP packet that made learning word families FUN!

The great thing about these just PRINT and PLAY word family games is that kids also get to practice proper letter formation!
 Just PRINT, add a die and a pencil and you are ready to PLAY!

 This little Moffatt Girl REALLY wanted to write the CVC words, but look at the frustration on her poor little face…
not good!

We  did start off with the chunky pencil, but she wanted to try the “regular” pencil.
She is an “I can do it myself” type of girl, so I tend to just go with it.

As you can see, we still have a lot of work to do on proper letter formation.   And that’s OKAY!
 The little honey is only 4 years old.  She is ready2read, but not ready to start writing.

We ditched the pencil and pulled out our dot markers!

Simply roll a die, read a word in the column and dot it with your marker!  Fast, FUN and effective!

Now there is my HAPPY little learner!  I needed to adjust this to fit HER needs 🙂

The goal was to READ, not practice penmanship…at least not right now 🙂

Each page in this packet works with one word family at a time!  This makes it EASY to implement into any existing reading program or literacy center.  We just started Ready2Read Level 1 Unit 1 and this was a perfect addition to our -at and -an word family practice!

As with all of our NO PREP packets, there is NO laminating, NO costly colored ink, NO PREP!  Just PRINT the word family you need and PLAY!

  1. Annie, thank you for this new pack… I am a pre-k teacher and have some learners who have a good grasp of letter sounds and are beginning to work on CVC words. These are wonderful for them! I love how their faces light up when they are able to sound out new words! This will definitely help with the reinforcement of blending sounds. Thanks a bunch!

I teach children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing and these worksheets help them so much for pronunciation of words, it helps them so much.
