I remember being in Brownies and making these peanut butter bird feeders. I knew that I wanted the girls to have the same sweet experience, so I figured I would wait for the Spring to make these homemade bird feeders. What?? What until Spring? It dawned on me that it is bird feeding month and these poor creatures could use some food NOW!! So here is Audrey’s birdfeeder.
Take out your binoculars and watch those hungry birds fill their bellies during these winter months!
If you look really close, you can see our first customer!!

Oh, this is a great idea – I've been looking for something crafty but a bit different to do with all those toilet tubes we've been saving up to recycle. Do the birds manage to get the seeds off all right? I think the kids and I will give this a try!

Yes those birds get those seed off very well. In fact, they clean that toilet paper clean!!:) We are about to make another one. Perhaps I should use the paper towel roll this time, since it is a lot bigger:)
This is such a great way to make an easy to hang bird feeder.

Thank you for this simple idea! We had such fun making four for our backyard birds. And we made them with SunButter sunflower seed spread so they'd be allergy safe for our peanut free household.

I thought this was genius! My children and I have made some before but using pine cones and they didn't work out to well, it was messy and they where hard to hang. SO when i saw this blog i got SO excited!!! Thanks you for sharing, I'm now following you.

I love how simple this is. Thanks for sharing! We save all out toilet paper tubes for our hamster, but we always have FAR more than she needs. I took a friend's idea to make bird feeders for one of our advent activities, and I think we'll try this kind.

I guess my birds are picky. My tube has been out there for two days and they have not touched it. Oh well, I TRY to be kind to animals and they don't appreciate my grand gestures. LOL (note the sarcasm)
Do you think I could store these in the fridge or freezer to make as gifts?

O, that is awesome:-) It enables kids to take care about birds and gives them sensory-touch development. And looks really nice.
As my kids are allergic to peanut butter, I would try to replace it with dactil syrup.

Great idea, we did this a few months ago with pine cones and used string to put them in the tree. A squirrel came and chewed through the string and ran off with the pine cones lol. The kids weren't upset, they said its a bird feeder and squirrel feeder. awww.

What a great idea! I am always trying to think of a new use for old toilet paper rolls. This is a great way to feed the birds, or squirrels!
I want to do this activity in my classroom……(but I have a few kids allergic to peanut butter)…what could I use in it's place? Honey?
