I Have a HOLE on the Side of my House!

Yes. You read that right! I have a hole on the side of my house! Not a small hole, but an 9′ x 7′ HOLE on the side of my house!
It all started with a conversation that went something like this:
Me: “Honey, I think we should turn the office into a classroom for the girls. We really need a specific place to do school.”
My Husband: (said) “Okay, that’s fine.” He probably thought, “That is a good idea because all the school stuff in the living room is getting out of control.”
Me: “I just need to clear out all the stuff in office. I need to get rid of the old computers and furniture. We also need to find a place for the bird.”
My Husband: (said) “Okay.” He probably thought, “We are we going to put all that stuff? Great…this is going to be a lot of work.”
Me: We just need a large book case from (insert the name of the store here). I also need a large desk for the girls. I need it large enough where we can all sit together. Not too large because it is a small room. We can also get that from (insert the name of the store here). I would also like to paint it a different color. I’m not sure what color I want yet, but the color that we have in there is too dark.”
My Husband: “Annie, we are not buying stuff from (insert the name of the store here). That’s stuff is junk and it is going to fall apart in a couple of years.”
NOTE: My husband is right. We bought a dresser for the girls at (insert the name of the store here). It fell apart:( Two out of the five drawers are broken. We only had the dresser for a couple of years. Sigh…now what?
Me: “What are we going to do about furniture?” Thinking: I hope he says he will make the bookcase and the desk! I really hope he will! I know he is busy…but I am hoping.
NOTE: My husband it also a contractor and woodworker. He does AMAZING work! I LOVE this man:)
My Husband: “I’ll make it, Annie. I can do it a lot better and for about the same price, maybe a bit more, but it will last.” Let’s be honest here: he wasn’t totally excited about all the work that had to be done, but he hesitantly agreed to do it.
Me: “Yay!! Thank you, thank you!! I am so excited!” (Happy DANCE!!)
My Husband: He looks at me…he doesn’t say anything…he just looks.
End of conversation for now.
Well, my little project has turned into a slightly BIGGER project. You can see our first post about our classroom plans {HERE}. I was planning on slapping on some paint, getting some desks and bookcases from (insert the name of the store here) and decorating our classroom. Has that ever happened to you? Of course it has. We have all experienced these type of “projects.” My little project has turned into a complete remodel of our office with a little bit of structural renovation. Although I am SUPER happy…The Moffatt Man is not as happy, since he is the one doing all of the work.
A lot of things have been on hold since we started the remodel, including Level 3 of our Ready2Read program. I am planning on using our office wall for displaying the theme. But…I know the wait will be well worth it! As for now, we will be doing school on the kitchen table:)

I am SOOOO jealous!! I grew up with a dad that's a builder so there was ALWAYS something going on – and we had a dutch door too! except we called it a barn door…lol

I seriously and earnestly prayed for a cubical shelf {similar to the ones they have at IKEA- Expedit I think} but just a six or maximum nine cubby version. I never mentioned it to my hubby. I got WAY more than I expected. I think he was tired of seeing all the homeschool stuff in our office {all over the floor and anywhere I could shove paperwork} because he OFFERED to make the exact same type of shelf I had been eyeing for the looooooongest time. BUT he made me 35 cubbies {I wish I could BOLD that number}. I'm so thankful to the Lord for giving my wonderful husband the 'wisdom' and know-how to do it.
I am doing a happy dance for you because I know that wonderful feeling.
BTW, the dutch door is on my prayer list now. 😉
and I thought my classroom mini-makeover was exciting… WOW, so thrilling that you get to create your own classroom for your girls. What a great husband! Can't wait to see more photos!

Your blog caught my eye because of the name…my last name is Moffatt as well,and I have two amazing young ladies (mine are older now 17 and 21). I also used to teach,which I enjoyed, but it burned in my heart the desire to be home with my girls. They are now almost grown and love the Lord :). I hope your time with them is as wonderful and blessed as mine was! Haha, I love home project too 🙂
I'm also a fan of Dutch doors. From there, you can let in a lot of fresh air without the hassle of opening or closing the main door. Anyway, it looked like your hubby did a handful work over there. So, how's your study room?
