Our Ready2Read program is working wonderfully and I wanted to share a video of Audrey reading. However, I also want to make a disclaimer: This is OUR experience with the Ready2Read program and each child may experience different levels of success.
The Ready2Read program has been beneficial to Audrey because of all the hands-on learning activities, which she really enjoys. The phonics and sight word components in this program have helped to lay a solid foundation for her reading journey. Up to this point, I have not used any other reading program to teach my daughter how to read. Our journey has been so much fun! More than anything, I am so happy that Audrey LOVES to read and that I was able to be her teacher! She reads all the time and her reading continues to improve weekly.
Note: I let Audrey pick a book to read for the video, and she picked Amelia Bedelia. As a mommy, I must say that her cuteness just melts my heart! I love this little girl!!

Audrey does a wonderful job with expression and clarifying. I love that she stops and takes in the pictures after the pages. You are doing a magnificent job!

Just curious what level she would be at on the DRA?

I am not sure about the DRA, but I did have her formally tested by my teacher friend. We stopped testing at early 3rd grade. However, although she is decoding at this level, she is not comprehending at this level. We will slowly be working on comprehension (under the surface questions, inferences, etc.)
Wow! Early 3rd grade level that is wonderful. I would love to hear what strategies you use to help with comprehension. Thank you once again for all your wonderful resources and sharing them.

You mentioned you used hands on phonics activities to make learning fun.Can you be more specific.I am homeschooling my 5 year old and she HATES reading and I am so desperate to make it fun for her.I did buy your ready to read level 1 and it is awesome.I have learned that she has a short attention span so we do not do all the activities on the lesson plan for the day and she seems to be more receptive to that.Thanks for any suggestions.

The hands-on phonics that I use are those in the Ready2Read program. For example, the word slides, the play dough mats, and anything else that makes learning to read tactile. When kids can manipulate and do something they enjoy, such as work with play dough, they are more likely to enjoy the process. Since your daughter is just 5, I would take it slow and have fun with it. Sing songs about reading. For example, in the Ready2Read program we sing our sight words, but you can extend that into word families too. I hope that helps a bit:)
Does a child need to know the individual phonemes in order to start with unit 1 level 1?
