For example: You have the CVC word C–A–N and you are helping a student sound out the word. It is very common for early readers to “assume” the ending sounds and sound out the /c/ and /a/ and then put a t at the end, making the word CAT.
These CVC Peek-a-Boo Books are a great way to isolate each sound and practice blending the words before revealing the picture/answer. It is also LOTS of FUN! I gave one to Sophia since she knows all her sounds. She grabbed the book and plucked off each clothespin and sounded out the letters, but no blending happened today:) She was so excited that she said, “Are these my printables?” Then she grabbed more and ran away:)

Annie, these are just brilliant! I was just discussing this 'guessing of the final sound' in cvc words today with a special ed teacher who takes a couple of my kiddies….these could not have come at a better time!
