Students look at a shape, estimate how many snap cubes will fill it, then fill the shape and count to check. This hands-on 3rd grade estimation activity introduces area by covering a shape with unit squares and builds number sense in morning bins or math centers. Aligned to CCSS 3.MD.C.5 and 3.MD.C.6.
