Teaching Beginning Sounds is one of the very first steps in learning how to read. I take this task very seriously and try my best to make it FUN! When a child can master beginning sounds, it really builds confidence in the journey to learning how to read.
At the Moffatt house we are gearing up for our Ready2Read program this coming Fall by reviewing, reinforcing and mastering our beginning sounds. Since we LOVE ice cream, I decided to make some Beginning Sounds Scoops!
This is such an engaging activity since it allows children to color, cut and paste! The more hands-on and interactive, the better.
Although Sophia already knows her Beginning Sounds, this has really been a good confidence builder. I am a firm believer in reinforcing and mastering skills before moving forward. Needless to say…she LOVED her printable! Who doesn’t love ice cream? With each ice cream scoop, she practiced sounding out the word. For example, she would say “/b/../b/…bird goes on the B ice cream cone!”
